How the Pit and Pendulum should've ended.

As the Pendulum's scythe-like blade rose up the condemned man quickly jumped up and grabbed the flat of the blade going up with it. Once the pendulum reached past the trapdoor the character climbed through dark tunnels and eventually came out into a local town unscathed and fine.

Poe

Like most people I prefer to read Edgar Allen Poe instead of other poets. He has this quality in his writing where he draws you into his poem and that grabs your attention and doesn't let go.Most his poems are interesting, suspenseful, and quite exciting. Another think that I like about him is that he isn't very predictable, while reading you can't guess whats going to happen just by reading the title.

Poems

This week we have read many poems. The one I liked the most was Old Ironsides, which was a poem created by Oliver Wendell Holmes. Oliver created this poem to save the Constitution which was a ship actually used in the War of 1812. I think this poem has more meaning then the others we've read and also just seems to flow slightly better, but this is all opinion.

Nature

People these days often think of nature as a bothersome annoyance.  I personally am not the nature type but I think that Nature is very important for the world as a whole. When I think of nature I think of big thick forests and then I think of deforestation and expansion to the point where there won't be anymore forests left. To me this is not smart and should be an issue that needs to be fixed.

Political Climate

Though McCarthy is generally thought of as a bad guy, one has to just realize how much power he had over American society without fighting a war or something of that nature. He had enough influence to have people give up their neighbors. McCarthy devoted himself to a cause and forced everyone else to be devoted to it also.

Crucible Reflection

As I'm reading this play I realize something: that these people are controlled by fear and the thought of being different. The people of Salem need to just calm down and think things through. Another thing I realize is that everyone know that the religion was starting to crumble and that the flaws of the Puritan religion began to show.

Observations

As I think about our country and American society as a whole I see many problems. People have become uncommited and have this new attitude of "I'll do it when I get to it". To me this is hardly what the old American principles are based on and hardly what people need to be doing.
So as I think about this  realize that this isn't how God wants us to be, not the complacent and squandering people we are but efficient, hard working, diligent, and determined people.

An Artists Depiction of Squanto
I found this picture of Squanto while looking through several sources. While looking I noticed that they all said the same thing. That Squanto helped the Pilgrims create peace and helped fight off starvation by trading them herbs and several vegetables. He also taught them how to hunt, set up fish traps, and to plant many forms of food. Even though Squanto was a slave in England he was still very willing to help the Pilgrims and because of him there was peace between England and the Natives.

New Blog!! Captain John Smith

http://pocahontas.morenus.org/smith.html This is Captain John Smith. He was portrayed in his own journal as a great leader and one who should be remembered. While I don't doubt that, he seems quite bias throughout the journal. In this picture he matches the National Geographic video and looks completely different from anything that Disney creates.

New Blog!! Native American blog post.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlHtzU133NI&p=141958E097DD57CB&playnext=1&index=52

This story is explaining why the rabbits tail is so different from other animals' tails. This story has a trickster in it and a "fool" that gets tricked. In this case its the rabbit who in the middle of winter doesn't have any food and when he was hunting didn't do well at all. He asked the fox "chula" where he got his fish and the fox said the frozen river. He got them by sticking his tail in the frozen ice and getting the fish to take a bite. Well his tail became frozen into the ice and he had to lose it for the rabbit to move.

Inside this story we find the Native American doing what every society and culture doing: creating stories and myths to explain the unknown reasons. I find this quite interesting and enjoyed watching this video..
